The Powerball game has finally gotten a winner. After months of watching jackpots rise and rise the multi-state lottery game can finally payout on its top cash prize. According to the Powerball website, the single ticket that matched all the numbers necessary to claim the $731 million dollar prize was sold in Maryland.

Good for them.

That doesn't mean that if you bought a ticket in Louisiana that you need to toss it in the trash because there is a chance, not a great chance or even a good chance, but still a chance you could recoup some of your money if you played the game. The Louisiana Lottery website says that a ticket sold in Kenner matched enough of the Powerball numbers for last night's drawing to claim a $50,000 prize.

Here are the numbers for the Powerball drawing on January 20th, 2021.

40   53   60   68   69   PB 22  Powerplay x2

Louisiana Lottery officials say that in addition to the $50,000 winner sold in Kenner there were 89 other tickets sold in the state that can lay claim to a prize of at least $100 dollars. Twenty-two of those tickets are actually worth $300 bucks because the ticket purchaser opted in on the Powerplay option of the game.

The Powerball jackpot will now reset to $20 million for Saturday night's drawing. Meanwhile, the Mega Millions jackpot continues to climb. Administrators of that game say the jackpot on Friday night could be in excess of $970 million by the time the ping pong balls drop at 9:59 tomorrow.

If you're looking to improve your lottery chances you might want to consider the Louisiana Lottery's LOTTO game. That game has a current jackpot of more than $2.5 million dollars and participation in the game is nowhere close to the participation in the national lottery contests.

As always, we encourage you to play responsibly. Don't spend more than you can afford to lose and if you or a loved has a problem with gambling, there is help available.
