Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson says that a Rayne man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run crash last night.

The crash happened around 9pm Sunday evening on Quarter Pole Road near LA 98, east of Rayne.

42-year-old Ivy J. Roger of Rayne was arrested after hitting a bicyclist and fleeing the scene of the crash. He allegedly left his vehicle not far from the scene and fled the area.

Authorities have identified the victim as Ricky Joyner, 61, of Rayne. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies secured a search warrant to obtain blood from Roger because he was uncooperative and was believed to be intoxicated.

At the time of the crash, Roger's license was under suspension due to a previous DWI charge.

Gibson told KLFY TV-10 that Roger has had "multiple issues with driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated."

All told, Roger has been charged with five DWIs in the past.

He was charged with hit and run, operating a vehicle under suspension and vehicular homicide. However, according to Gibson, DWI charges are pending verification from the crime lab.
