New Orleans Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata has officially been suspended 1 game by the NFL for violating the league's substances of abuse policy.

Onyemata was issued a misdemeanor summons for marijuana possession by the Jefferson Parish Police Department in River Ridge, Louisiana back in February.

While NFL players are not suspended on their first positive marijuana test, by league rule, a player can be suspended for possession of marijuana, as it falls under the "illegal activities" umbrella of the league's abuse policy.

New Orleans kicks off their season on Monday, September 9th, at 6:10pm against the Houston Texans.

Onyemata will not play in the game, but should return in week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams.
