Drew Brees is a free agent that no New Orleans Saints fan wants to even fathom the thought of leaving the team. And it shouldn't happen.

Representatives for Brees and the New Orleans Saints intend to meet at next week's NFL Combine in Indianapolis to discuss parameters on a new contract, this according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Of course Brees has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the team that he's been a part of since 2006.

Time is of the essence as there is significant incentive for the Saints to get the deal done before Brees' contract voids in March. They would be stuck with a cap charge of $18 million for next season if a new deal isn't in place before the start of free agency.

The 39-year-old quarterback is still performing as one of the league's elite. Last year he completed a career-high 72 percent of his passes and eclipsed a 100.0 passer rating for the seventh time in his career.
