Severe Storms Possible for Louisiana This Weekend
(KMDL-FM) The past week and a half, maybe longer, has been delightful across Louisiana as far as the weather is concerned. That is going to change. Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center have placed a large portion of Louisiana at risk for heavy rains and severe storms over the weekend.
While the sunny skies and dry conditions have been great for outside events such as Festivals Acadiens et Creoles, the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff, and Germanfest, this weekend's outside activities might need to keep an eye on the sky.

Among the big events happening over the weekend are Chuck Fest in downtown Lake Charles, the International Rice Festival in Crowley, and the University of Louisiana will celebrate homecoming with a parade, tailgating, and a football game on Saturday, too. Unfortunately, that's when we might encounter showers and storms.

How Much Rainfall Is Expected in Louisiana This Weekend?
Most forecasters suggest we will receive half an inch of rainfall or less. We should point out that any showers or storms that move across the area should be scattered in nature, and forecasters are certainly not calling for a "washout" for the weekend. The greatest threat for showers and storms in South Louisiana will be late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night and Sunday morning.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is a marginal risk for severe storms generally north of I-10 late in the day Saturday. The risk of severe storms increases the further north you go.
If you're wondering about how much rain the area might see, it won't be enough to break the growing drought across the region, but even if it's only a tenth of an inch of rain, that will be beneficial in so many ways. And this might be our greatest chance at rainfall until Halloween.
How Cold Will It Be in Louisiana Behind The Front and Next Week?
We should also note that behind the front, it will feel cooler and actually be cooler. One forecast outlet is suggesting we will start the day Monday morning in South Louisiana with temperatures in the mid-50s. The remainder of the week will have cool, clear mornings and warm sunny afternoons.
