Shaking Out the Good Stuff — Lafayette Tool Library Hosting Field Day Tool Drive and Fundraiser on July 29
We've all been to a library. You know, books and learning and whatnot. But have you been to a tool library?
Chances are, you haven't visited the latter, but that could change for you soon as the Lafayette Tool Library is coming this fall.
What is the Lafayette Tool Library?
It's really simple. It's a library...for tools! Anyone in the community will be able to borrow tools for free.
The Lafayette Tool Library is being opened by Anna Kojevnikov, community development manager at Acadiana Center for the Arts, along with her friend Allison Nederveld.
This non-profit organization recently bought a trailer to get the tool library started and eventually, the goal is open a brick-and-mortar location.
But to get that permanent facility built, funds need to be raised. And you can help the cause by attending a free event this Saturday. (Yes, we said free.)
Lafayette Tool Library Field Day Tool Drive & Fundraiser
This event will be held under the shady oak trees at Maison Freetown located at 800 E Vermilion Street in Lafayette this Saturday, July 29 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Here are some of the things that attendees can expect:
- Musical performances by Bruisey Peets, plus duo Northside Eric and Cal Stevenson
- Unflattering portraits by Bob Borel
- Demonstrations on how to patch a wall, change a brake light, and establish a composting system
- Family-friendly yard games including a fun jump, corn hole, giant Jenga and Connect Four, and water balloons
- Thousands of dollars in raffle prizes from local businesses
- Food from Cafe 20.3 On The Bayou and snowcones from Sno Prince
Donations of gently used working order tools will be accepted in exchange for chances to win raffle prizes.
Otherwise, raffle tickets will be: $5 for 1, $45 for 10, $100 for 25.
Anyone planning on attending the event is encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets, drinks and lawn chairs.
In addition to the ample shade at Masion Freetown, free water, fans, and misters will be on site to keep attendees cool.
