Don't get me wrong, you won't be needing a jacket or sweater anytime soon. It will still be very hot across South Louisiana today. The difference is that Mother Nature is at least going to give us a better than normal shot at a shower or thunderstorm to take some of the edges off of that heat this afternoon.

The dome of high pressure that has been in control of Acadiana's weather pattern for the past several days is finally starting to weaken a bit. This will allow a weak disturbance, currently situated over coastal Alabama to slide westward toward Louisiana.

This disturbance should increase the threat of mainly afternoon and early evening showers across the region significantly. Bradley Benoit, a Meteorologist with KATC Television said in his blog that rain chances of 50%-60% will be likely across Acadiana today.

Let's hope we do get a shower or two since watering restrictions are in place, at least in Lafayette. But don't get your hopes up that we are about to be done with the oppressive heat and triple-digit heat indices. They will be returning by the weekend as the disturbance moves out and high pressure builds back into the area.
