( KMDL-FM) It has been a blustery week across Louisiana. Wind advisories have been posted almost every day this week for much of the I-10 corridor from New Orleans westward to Lake Charles.

In addition to the gusty conditions onshore, the breezes which are blowing from the south, have been piling up water along Louisiana's coastline. This has led to coastal flood advisories for Cameron, Vermillion, Iberia, and St Mary Parishes.

The National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center are also suggesting that all of Louisiana will be under the gun for severe weather. The threat of strong storms will be likely in the northwestern portion of the state by this evening.

Stormy conditions should move across the state on Saturday with the most likely threat of severe storms happening late Saturday afternoon and evening in the early hours of Sunday morning.

As you can see from the graphic provided by the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles there is an enhanced threat of severe storms generally north of I-10, while the threat is a little less likely from I-10 southward to the coast.

The catalyst for the strong storms is a cold front and this cold front could be Louisiana's "last hurrah" for the winter of 2025. Forecasters in northern Louisiana are even mentioning patchy frost for some locales by early Sunday and Monday morning.

Elsewhere across the state afternoon high temperatures could be at least 20 degrees colder this weekend than what we might experience today. In Lafayette, the forecast high for Friday is 85. By Monday that forecast high is only 65 degrees. Overnight lows on Monday and early next week could be in the middle 40s as well.

Once the weekend storm system moves out of the area early Sunday morning, conditions are expected to improve and the remainder of the workweek next week should be calmer and cooler when compared to what we have experienced this week.
