Strong Storms Could Threaten Holiday Plans This Weekend
The first weekend following the frenzy that is Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Around here it usually means kicking off the Christmas season with special events, performances, and a parade or two. That should still be the case for events planned on Saturday and Sunday but Friday might be a bit iffy as far as Mother Nature is concerned.
The Storm Prediction Center has almost the entire state of Louisiana included in an area of concern for strong thunderstorms. The heaviest storms will likely affect northwest Louisiana. The SPC has issued a notice of an enhanced threat for storms there. And while the threat of severe weather will not be as great along the I-10 corridor there is still a slight risk that some of the thunderstorm activity could reach severe limits.
Lake Charles officials have already postponed Light up the Lake and surrounding events that were set for tomorrow (Nov 30). Those events will go on as planned but on December 15th.
Meanwhile, in Lafayette Friday's Festival of Lights in the Oil Center could be affected by inclement weather, however, there has been no official notice of a change of plans. If I were you I would stay close to us for any changes in the schedule.
The weather does improve on Saturday and Sunday with a mix of clouds and sun and a smaller chance of showers. The temperatures will be what most of us will be talking about over the weekend because it won't feel like Christmas when the Sonic Christmas Parade rolls on Sunday.
We could be waving at Santa just to keep him cool. Afternoon high temperatures could reach into the upper 70's and low 80's. I am guessing the chances of snow will be minimal.
