Strong Storms Expected In Acadiana Today
You might not even need to go sneak a peek at the National Weather Service radar scan out of Lake Charles to know that we are in for some bumpy weather today. Fortunately, forecasters do not believe there will be a widespread outbreak of severe storms with today's weather event.
Still, the Storm Prediction Center has the entire state of Louisiana included in the "marginal risk" zone for storms that could reach severe limits. As of 4 AM radar signatures indicated the leading edge of a large rain shield that included some heavy storms was just west of the state line and moving this way.
The forecast timing suggests that western sections of the state should begin to experience showers and storms in the next hour or so. For the Lafayette area, our rain chances will be the best between 7 AM and 3 PM today. The lunch hour appears to be when the heaviest weather will be affecting the city of Lafayette and the I-49/Highway 90 corridor.
Forecasters believe many locations across South Louisiana will see rainfall totals between one and three inches before the storm system moves out of the area by later this afternoon and evening.
Behind the front, you can expect windy conditions and much colder temperatures. The forecast high on Friday is expected to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than today's forecast high. Skies should begin to clear in Acadiana during the day on Friday and the forecast for the weekend is mostly sunny and seasonable.
