The Village of Maurice might soon earn official designation as a town. Here's what that will mean to residents.

There are now new laws in place for bars in Maurice designed to make things safer and reduce fights, stop underage drinking and stop people from getting hit by cars. However, some bar owners say these laws won't work.

Troy Blake, 47, of Lafayette is in jail in Vermilion Parish for allegedly picking up eight oz of crystal meth at the post office in Maurice.

Two bodies badly burnt during a vehicle fire in Vermilion Parish earlier this week have been identified as a male and a female, but their races are still unknown, according to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office.

The Department of Transportation and Development has informed us that US 167, within the village limits of Maurice, will begin road construction on Saturday, January 21.
