(KMDL-FM) It was earlier this year that we informed you that a major home goods store with several locations in Louisiana had revealed plans to file for bankruptcy protection. That chain operates stores in Lafayette, Kenner, Slidell, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport.

That report from last May was corroborated by Bloomberg, and apparently, the plans to file for bankruptcy have come to fruition, as it was announced last week that At Home, a Texas-based home goods retailer, would be shutting some 26 stores across its 200-plus location footprint across the nation.

Why Are At Home Stores Closing?

The retailer cited weakened customer demand and pressures related to new tariffs as the reason for choosing to restructure at this time. As a result of the restructuring, the chain plans to shutter 26 underperforming stores by the end of September 2025.

As part of the behind-the-scenes brokering for the bankruptcy settlement, At Home's ownership is being transferred to a hedge fund and investment groups. The company's CEO, Brad Weston, told media outlets that the agreements that are in place now represent a critical and positive advancement of their work to best position At Home for the future.

Which Locations of At Home Are Closing?

USA Today published a list of stores that are on the closing list for the end of September. None of those stores appear to be located in Texas or Louisiana at this time.  The majority of store closures appear to be in California, New Jersey, and New York.

While the 40 current locations of At Home in Texas and the four locations of At Home in Louisiana appear to be safe from being shuttered at this time, things certainly could change. But as of now, there have been no other plans revealed to close more stores at this time.
