There are four active tropical weather features currently being monitored by the National Hurricane Center. As of this writing, there is are two tropical storms, a tropical depression, and a tropical wave.

Fortunately only one of these tropical systems appears to be a threat to the United States coastline. That would be Tropical Storm Florence. Forecasters believe that Florence will become a hurricane later today. The latest model runs on Florence depict an encounter of some kind with the Eastern Seaboard somewhere from South Carolina to Cape Cod.

Tropical Storm Helene is just off the African coast. So it's about as far away from Acadiana as a North Atlantic Basin system can be. Forecasters believe that Helene will become a hurricane but it should stay out at sea.

Tropical Depression Nine is about 1,700 miles east of the Windward Islands. It is forecast become a tropical storm later today (September 8). If it does earn a name it would be called Isaac. It too is forecast to become a hurricane by early next week. The model guidance for this system pulls it almost due west. This would have the system impact the islands by Thursday or Friday of next week.

The tropical wave is actually the weather system that is located the closest to the United States. This system located very near Bermuda is not expected to be much more than it currently is. Which is an area of showers and thunderstorms.
