Louisiana lottery players had a fairly lucky weekend this past weekend. A ticket sold in Louisiana for the multi-state Powerball game matched enough numbers to claim a $50,000 prize. Next door in Texas two tickets matched the same numbers but opted in for the Power Play so their prizes will be $100,000. And those were some of the largest prizes awarded in Saturday's Powerball drawing.

If you didn't win the Powerball, don't worry, you can play tonight. The estimated top prize for the Powerball game on 12/11/2023 is $477 million if you opt for the annuity. Or, you could choose the lump sum option which would pay you 229.7 million dollars. Naturally, those figures will be affected by the tax man.

But enough about the Powerball, the big story over the weekend was the Mega Millions game. That's the other multi-state lottery game that is available for players in Louisiana. Oddly enough, Mega Millions has never produced a jackpot winner in Louisiana but over the weekend the game produced two jackpot winners.

Here is how the drawing unfolded on Friday night if you didn't get the chance to see it.

The numbers that came tumbling out of the hopper were:

21   26   53   66   70   Megaball 13  Megaplier x3

You may verify those numbers when you check your tickets at the official Mega Millions website. The largest prize that a Louisiana-sold ticket could lay claim to was a $1,500 prize. There were two tickets sold in the state that earned that amount. Another two tickets also won $500 but other than those prizes, most of the big money was earned elsewhere.

And by big money, the game did get a jackpot winner. Two tickets sold for Friday's drawing matched the numbers exactly. So those tickets will split the $395 million jackpot. But, here is where the "plot thickens". Not that we are implying there is some kind of plot but the circumstances surrounding this "win" are raising some eyebrows.

Both of the winning tickets for the Friday night drawing were sold at a Chevron gas station along Ventura Boulevard near Lindley Avenue in Encino, California. No, we don't know if the two ticket purchasers are related. Or if this is just one of those "lighting in a bottle" kinds of moments that happen when you play lottery games.

Regardless, the Mega Millions jackpot will reset to 20 million dollars for Tuesday night, and as we mentioned tonight's Powerball will be an estimated $477 million.
