Louisiana State Troopers say a New Iberia man was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred late Monday afternoon on LA 14 near Leleux Road. According to police reports, the incident happened about 5:30 Monday evening and claimed the life of 53-year-old Wayne Touchet of New Iberia.

In their report Troopers say that the pickup truck driven by Touchet was traveling south on Leleux Road and for some reason failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 14. Upon entering the highway Touchet's vehicle was struck by another pickup truck on the driver's side of the vehicle.

Although authorities reported that Touchet was properly restrained the impact of the crash inflicted fatal injuries. The driver of the other truck was properly restrained and only received minor injuries. That individual refused medical treatment. However, a passenger in the vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

State Police conducted toxicology tests at the scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
