Let's stir the pot a little bit, shall we?

A common source of contention often brought up on social media over the years has been tipping in the service industry.

Paying The Bill

Many times servers at a restaurant express frustration about serving a table of five people who rack up a bill but can't manage to tip the server much of anything if anything at all.

However, what we see more today are businesses like coffee shops and even clothing boutiques whose employees rely on tips as their source of income. The issue that has arisen is customers feeling pressured into leaving not just a tip, but a tip of more than just a dollar or two.

TikTok user Aubrey Grace took to the platform to show just how this "pressure" happens, and I can't say I have much of an argument.

The video has reached over 1.5 million views and racked up thousands of comments on the topic.

The focus of the video is on businesses who use iPads as a "register" with new technology like the Square Reader. Have you ever been in this kind of situation? What makes it uncomfortable is the cashier looking over the iPad as you fill out the "tip" section causing the customer to feel pressured to leave a hefty tip.

This has happened to me even when filling out a paper receipt at the register and feeling the eyes of the cashier peering down at me.

Here's the thing, I have worked in the service industry. I know exactly what it is like to work my rear end off to make sure customers are satisfied only to see a two-dollar tip or nothing at all on the check once they leave. The letdown and frustration are all too real.

Other TikTok users took to the video to comment on their thoughts as well.

There is no doubt that there will always be at least two opposing views on this topic. Someone will always have something to say about the way tipping culture is today. I don't think that is ever going to change.
