Walmart Limiting Number of Customers in Stores at One Time

Starting today (4/4/20), Walmart has begun limiting the number of customers inside its stores amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Only five customers per 1,000 square feet can enter a Walmart, which will be about 20 percent of each store's listed capacity.

Associates at each store will mark a queue at a single-entry door (in most instances the Grocery entrance) and direct customers arriving there, where they'll be admitted one-by-one and counted.

Once a store reaches its capacity, customers will be admitted inside on a "1-out-1-in" basis.

And in many stores next week, markers will be put down to direct shoppers to one-way foot traffic "to help more customers avoid coming into close contact with others as they shop."

Walmart officials released the following statement:

We’re doing everything we can to help strengthen our community of families, friends and associates. We’re taking preventative measures to keep our stores clean and maintain a healthy environment. Together, we’ll get through this.
