Technology meets history in this 2015 video of a traditional Courir de Mardi Gras which was filmed by drone in the rural countryside between Mamou and Eunice. This unique and oh-so-Louisiana event, commonly known as a 'chicken run' happens all over Acadiana, and is so completely different from the beads and balls of bigger cities around the state.

'Chasing a Chicken' is really just a time honored way of getting your dinner, by going house to house to beg for ingredients for a gumbo. The unusual and beautiful costumes include capuchons, brightly colored fringe, and home made masks, sometimes fashioned from chicken wire. It is a time honored tradition, which is still beautiful to this day. It happens in small rural communities all over Louisiana, but mostly right here in ''Cajun Country'.

Show this to all of your out of state friends who think Mardi Gras is just throwing beads, getting drunk, and eating king cake.
