Fourth of July weekend, even in these pandemic times has sent quite a few of our friends and neighbors to the beach. Those that have ventured through and avoided the traffic in the Mobile Tunnel and are now getting settled in on Perdido Key, Okaloosa Island, and along Choctawhatchee Bay are no doubt ready for some socially distant sun soaked fun.

One problem, the soaking might come in the form of tropical downpours over the next day or so. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a very broad area of low-pressure along the northern Gulf Coast. It's centered east of New Orleans and south of Biloxi. Think of where Katrina made landfall back in 2005.

Forecasters do not give this system much of a chance for development as it slides eastward along the coast and across Florida into the Atlantic over the next five days. Perhaps conditions along the Eastern Seaboard will be more conducive for development than they are along the northern Gulf Coast.

What this means for us is some enhanced shower possibilities over the next day or so. For our friends on the Redneck Riviera, you'll have some rainy days to deal with too, but the sun will eventually shine.

Be safe and be mindful of rip  currents.
