Weather Service : Severe Storms Possible Tuesday Across Louisiana
(Lake Charles, LA) As of 1:00 AM, a line of strong thunderstorms with some embedded severe thunderstorms was pushing across East Texas. The heaviest of the storms at this early hour were reported between Houston and Beaumont, with more strong storms stretching northward toward Tyler and Lufkin.
At this current rate, the storms should cross into western Louisiana, affecting the cities of Lake Charles, Leesville, and Shreveport/Bossier City within the next hour or so. This line of storms has already spawned numerous severe thunderstorm warnings and special marine warnings for the coastal waters. Many of those warnings impacted the Greater Houston Metro late Monday night into the early hours of Tuesday.

Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center have placed the southern two-thirds of Louisiana at risk for more strong to severe storms today. The cities of Lafayette, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans are included in this risk so those who live in work in those areas should remain weather aware, especially during the afternoon hours when the heaviest of the storms are forecast.
Are Flooding Rains Possible For Louisiana on Tuesday?
The Weather Prediction Center also has much of Louisiana at risk for excessive rainfall. This means there is a possibility of flash flooding and street flooding during the heaviest of the downpours. The area generally north of I-10 is where the heaviest rain is forecast to fall during the day today.
Most of the forecast outlets that serve South Louisiana have the probability of precipitation listed near 50% to 60% for the daylight hours. Rainfall accumulation is expected to be near half an inch in today's showers and storms, but locally heavier amounts will be possible near some of the stronger thunderstorms.
