If you ask folks in Louisiana what they would spend "extra money" on should they happen to find themselves the beneficiary of a financial windfall you'll get a lot of different answers. Some folks in Lafayette and Lake Charles tell us they'd pay bills or stash the extra money away for a "rainy day".

Folks in New Orleans might spend some of their cash on Mardi Gras fun, while folks in Louisiana's small towns would likely use any extra money to afford gas, groceries, and the ever-increasing cost of heating and cooling their homes.

I guess what we are saying is this, no matter what walk of life you come from in Louisiana a little or a lot of extra money courtesy of Uncle Sam, the United States Government, would be appreciated.

And with the substantial savings and waste management that the new Department of Government Efficiency has uncovered, there is talk that we might all be getting some of our money back. The mission of DOGE as it has been described is to slash federal spending through cuts to agencies. The White House has suggested in just one month the DOGE crew has noted at least $2.2 billion in initial savings.

However, a spokesperson for DOGE has suggested the agency has already saved some $55 billion in taxpayer dollars. The department hopes to save taxpayers some $2 trillion annually. I think we would all appreciate getting our money's worth out of the government, and I believe most of us would like to get the money back that we overpaid.

That's where the idea of the $8,000 DOGE Dividend has taken flight. One influencer on TikTok did the math and came up with that figure. However, the leader of an Arizona-based investment firm suggested a DOGE Dividend. The idea is that 20% of all DOGE-inspired savings would be returned to the American taxpayer. Based on the calculations the figure this plan came up with suggested a stimulus check of $5,000 would be more in line compared to $8,000.

Will it happen? Not sure. Could it happen? Yes, it very much could happen. In fact, Elon Musk the unofficial face and spokesperson for DOGE told reporters he would "check with the President". So, just for clarity's sake, there has been no official announcement of any stimulus checks from DOGE. There are no official announcements planned. But, there is a precedent, and based on the figures being floated it is certainly not out of the question.
