Acadiana At Marginal Risk For Severe Weather Today

It's not the Mardi Gras weekend forecast we wanted but it's the Mardi Gras weekend weather we're going to get. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of south and southeastern Louisiana in the marginal category for severe weather today.

Will this disrupt today's Mardi Gras Parades? It certainly could.

A marginal threat of severe weather means that some of the showers and thunderstorms that are forecast across the area could have the potential to reach severe limits. Most likely they won't but damaging winds, hail, and even a tornado can't be totally ruled out of the forecast for Saturday.

The National Weather Service radar scan from the Lake Charles forecast center is currently showing a large area of light to moderate rain with embedded stronger storms building over southeastern Texas and the accompanying coastal waters. This area of convection is expected to spread eastward across Acadiana during the day on Saturday.

Forecast models indicate the most likely time for heavy shower or thunderstorms across the region will be from mid-morning through late afternoon. While the threat of precipitation won't totally be out of the forecast the potential for stronger storms and heavy downpours should decrease by this evening.
