Hopefully you're gearing up for an awesome 4th of July 3 day weekend. As you get ready to have a great time with friends and family, if your celebrations are going to include beverages of the adult kind, make certain you've got a designated driver.

You're going to notice increased police presence on the roadways starting tomorrow as the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" gets started for the 4th of July weekend. Law enforcement will be out in record numbers, working overtime to help keep Louisiana's roadways safe. The campaign is made possible by grants awarded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

Last year for the 4th of July weekend, there were 347 accidents, and seven of the 10 fatalities were alcohol related.

The good news is that alcohol related accidents have declined almost 30 percent over the past six to seven years.

From KATC -

"If you're going to drink, don't even think of driving, and don't get in a vehicle with anyone who has been drinking," LeBlanc continued. He also reminded motorists to use seat belts in front and back seats. "All passengers in Louisiana should be properly secured in a seat belt or age-appropriate child safety seat. It's not only the law. It's the single most important thing you can do to save your life in the event of a crash."
