The National Hurricane Center has identified another area of concern in the tropical Atlantic basin that could be the next player in the 2015 Hurricane Season. This area of disturbed weather began as a tropical wave that rolled off the African continent three days ago. It has been given the designation of 98L.

This system is in the vicinity of the Cape Verde Islands. So it is not unusual to find tropical development in that part of the world at this time of the year. The forecast models do show this system gaining strength and moving westward across the Atlantic in a track that is very similar to the track that Hurricane Danny has taken. Although most of the models to show the forecast track of 98L to be slightly north of the track of Danny.

The National Hurricane Center has given this system a 50% probability of becoming a tropical cyclone over the  next two days. That probability increases to 70% over the next five days. Should this system become a named entity it will be called Erika.
