Ok, of  course the first one I looked up was the New Orleans Saints. Here's the story:  New Orleans was awarded an NFL franchise on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 1966. The nickname was a popular choice in a name-the-team contest sponsored by the New Orleans States-Item, which announced the news of the new franchise with the headline, “N.O. goes pro!” The nickname, chosen by team owner John Mecom, was a nod to the city’s jazz heritage and taken from the popular song, “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

Who Knew?!

I am reminded that my sister, who lives in Houston, is definitely NOT a Texans fan, but likes the Tennessee Titans because they are / were the original  Houston Oilers.  Check out the origins of your favorite team...and WHO DAT!
