Do Not Leave These Items in Your Vehicle During Upcoming Louisiana Freeze

As the deep south prepares for a hard freezer by the end of this week and leading into the Christmas weekend, you should start to prepare for below-freezing temperatures now.

If you plan on leaving your vehicle out in the elements on days when temperatures will struggle to get above the freezing point, you should consider removing a few items from your vehicle.

For one, we all know that water and other liquids begin to freeze at 32 degrees, thus you do not want to leave any bottles of water or cans of soda in your vehicle. As liquids freeze, they expand and the last thing you want is for a soda can to explode in your vehicle during a freeze.

In addition to that, you will want to remove all electronics from your vehicle prior to the hard freeze. Freezing temperatures can impact your battery life and your device’s response time. So, remove all phones, tablets, and/or laptops from your vehicle before temperatures start to drop in the deep south.

If you have prescription eyeglasses you most certainly do not want to leave them in your vehicle on days when temperatures drop below freezing. Freezing temperatures can damage the frames, glass, or even the lenses.

If you are taking prescribed medicine, you most certainly do not want to leave your medicine in your vehicle. Like extreme temperatures, freezing temps can also impact the efficiency of medicine.

Also, if you take your medicine out of your vehicle prior to the freeze, you will not have to get out into the elements to get the medicine you may need in your vehicle.

Lastly, do not leave food, canned food included, in your vehicle in the days ahead. It's never really a. good idea to leave food in your vehicle, but canned food, like water, can expand once temps dip below freezing and that's one mess you do not want to have to address after the fact.
