A video circulating on social media showing a New Orleans police officer throwing a woman to the ground in the midst of a disturbance has sparked outrage and concern from the public.

The video was shared on Instagram by @neworleanspulse and has since been widely shared on social media platforms.

A second angle of the video has also resurfaced, showing more footage before and after the officer threw the young woman to the ground. In the additional footage, another male individual can be seen attempting to engage with the officer, possibly in retaliation for the way he handled the female individual.

The New Orleans Independent Police Monitor has responded to the incident, saying that they are aware of it and are "reviewing the matter" to see if it violates the NOPD Consent Decree. This Consent Decree is a court-ordered agreement between the City of New Orleans and the U.S. Department of Justice, which mandates reforms to the city's police department and addresses issues related to excessive use of force, biased policing, and other matters.

According to a woman claiming to be the older sister of the young woman being thrown, her younger sister was not even involved in the initial disturbance at a nearby Popeyes. Instagram user @_cydneyp says that she was "assaulted by a male Popeyes worker for using the bathroom" in the restaurant, and he punched her in the face.

In the same statement, the older sister of the woman seen being thrown says that the shooting that took place during the Bacchus parade on Sunday night was allegedly just two blocks away. She feels that the Popeyes employee who allegedly punched her in the face and those responsible for the shooting were more important issues for the officers to be concerned with.

Many of the commenters on the video raised concerns about police brutality and excessive use of force, particularly when it comes to the treatment of women and minorities by law enforcement officers.

The additional information provided by the woman claiming to be the young woman's sister only highlights the complexity of an already complicated situation which is currently being investigated to determine the facts of the incident.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
