What was supposed to be an afternoon of fun on the water turned tragic over the weekend in St. Martin Parish. Officials with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division say a 14-year-old girl was killed when the personal watercraft she was riding collided with another personal watercraft that was also being piloted by another teenager.

The resulting crash sent 14-year-old Hannah Landry to the hospital with serious injuries. Landry later succumbed to her injuries at Prevost Memorial Hospital in Donaldsonville. The other teen, a 15-year-old girl was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Landry was remembered last night during a special service last night.

According to reports, the two girls were given permission to operate the watercraft by a 17-year-old male. Authorities say charges against the 17-year-old could be filed but had not been as of the time of this report.  Both young women were wearing personal flotation devices at the time of the crash on Belle River in Lower St. Martin Parish.

A Facebook Fundraiser has been created to help the Landry Family with unexpected funeral and medical expenses.
