Summer officially arrives later this week but the hot temperatures and the afternoon thunderstorms have already made their presence known in Acadiana. This week we will keep a watchful eye on an area of disturbed weather in the Western Caribbean Sea.

This morning the National Hurricane Center gives this area of thunderstorms about a 30% probability of becoming a tropical cyclone. The tropical forecast models do not indicate this system will be influencing the South Louisiana forecast at least from a tropical storm point of view.

Our forecast for the week should remain rather sedate. A typical dose of heat and humidity with a chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm appears to be the rule. Wednesday appears to be our best chance for rainfall in the area. Here is the long range outlook according to Dave Baker at KATC TV 3.
