Lafayette’s Food Bank Needs Protein Donations
Newstalk 96-five KPEL and FoodNet are teaming up this month to collect protein donations during a food drive through the end of April.
Thousands of jobs have been lost across the state of Louisiana in the last two years, and many people have had to use the resources of the FoodNet Food Bank of Lafayette for the first time ever.
Right now, FoodNet is asking KPEL listeners to donate items that are protein based, as those are the items they really could use on their shelves right now.
Here are some ideas for non-perishable protein sources that can be donated:
- Tuna or any other fish in a can
- Peanut Butter
- Chili
- Beef Stew
- Meat in a can
- Beans in a can
- Dry Beans
These items are really needed at the food bank, and each time the donation bin is filled up here at our studio, it will be sent to FoodNet for them to distribute.
There are several drop off locations that are helping us to make this happen. You can go to these stores, make a protein purchase and place it right in the FoodNet bin before you leave any of these stores:
Adrien's Supermarket 3842 West Congress Street
Super 1 Foods 3747 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy
Super 1 Foods 215 West Willow Street
Champagne's Supermarket 454 Heymann Blvd
Whole Foods Market 4247 Ambassador Caffery
Spoiled Pet Spa 2837 Johnston Street
Townsquare Media 1749 Bertrand Drive
You may even have some items right in your pantry at home that you can donate, just be sure to check the expiration date on the non-perishable food you plan to give.
While this particular food drive is about protein donations, any non-perishable food items will be gratefully accepted.
