Louisiana Water Company (LAWCO) has issued a press release to ask customers in Iberia Parish to reduce the rate of dripping water and conserve water for the next 20 hours.

When temperatures reach or dip below the freezing mark it is recommended that homeowners allow their faucets to drip in hopes of preventing frozen pipes. With the recent freezing temperatures in Acadiana, that practice is taking a toll on the LAWCO water system.

Due to residents allowing their faucets to drip, the resulting drop in water pressure is making it difficult for LAWCO to maintain normal operating pressures.

Officials with LAWCO are asking residents of the City of New Iberia and the Village of Loreauville who are on the LAWCO system to conserve or restrict water usage over the next 20 hours or until temperatures rise above the freezing mark.

When temperatures do begin to thaw things out, LAWCO asks customers with broken or damaged water lines to close their water main as soon as possible and to allow it to remain closed until repairs are completed.

For questions or comments, contact LAWCO at (337) 365-0002.
