Louisiana Lottery Confirms Major Powerball Win on Monday
Louisiana Lottery players who like to try their luck at the multi-state lottery game Powerball have found themselves on a bit of a winning streak. The Louisiana Lottery has confirmed that recent Powerball drawings have made winners in New Iberia, Metairie, Walker, and Ville Platte, Louisiana. And as of Monday, November 11, 2024, the Louisiana Lottery had confirmed yet another high dollar payout for playing Powerball.
Powerball drawings are held three times a week across the game's footprint. The object of the game is to match all of the white ball numbers and the red Powerball. A ticket that does that will win the jackpot amount. Players have the option of choosing a lump sum payout or they may take their winnings over time.
There is some debate over which option is the best option. A winner who chooses a lump sum payout will get their money all at once. However, they will find the tax burden is significant and in some cases, your tax rate could triple compared to what you're used to paying.
The annuity allows for more money to be paid to the winner over time. The time deferred payouts defer the taxes so the tax burden isn't all at once. And while you might get paid more money you'll receive that money in individual installments paid out over 20 years. So, if you're old, go with the lump sum, that's my two cents anyway.
There was a Powerball drawing on Monday night. The lump sum jackpot was listed at $48.5 million. The annuitized jackpot was reported to be $102.7 million. Here is how that drawing played out on Monday.
In regard to that drawing, we have some good news and some bad news and then some more good news. The good news from Monday is that you won't have to worry about climbing into another tax bracket. The bad news? Obviously, you didn't win the Powerball. The other good news? The jackpot will grow for next time, so if you play again you could win more money.
The numbers that were drawn for Monday night were:
03 21 24 34 46 Powerball 09 Power Play "x3"
Game officials with Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery have confirmed no tickets matched the numbers needed to claim the jackpot prize so it will grow to an estimated $113 million when they play Powerball again on Wednesday.
Louisiana Lottery Confirms $50,000 Powerball Winner on Saturday
Our sources at the Louisiana Lottery confirmed there was a big Powerball win in the state on Saturday. The Powerball drawing for November 9th produced yet another big money winner in Acadiana. Our sources at the Louisiana Lottery tell us a ticket sold in Lafayette at Albertsons on Ambassador Caffery Parkway, the one near Settler's Trace, sold a ticket that matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball to earn a prize of $50,000.
If you toss that together with last Wednesday's $100,000 winner that was sold in New Iberia you could say that the region of the state known as Acadiana is the current hot spot for lottery luck in Louisiana.
How Much is Mega Millions Tonight?
The other multi-state lottery game available for play in Louisiana is Mega Millions. The jackpot in that game is listed at $361 million for the annuitized jackpot. The lump sum payout on Mega Millions tonight is estimated to be $169.2 million. The drawing is scheduled for 10 pm.
