LUS, Entergy, SLEMCO, And Cleco Customers Being Asked To Conserve Electricity Again On Wednesday Night
South Louisiana is being asked to roll back its electricity usage once again.
LUS, Entergy, Cleco, and SLEMCO have all been asked by MISO to have customers limit their electricity use starting tonight (Feb. 17).
This is due to cold weather causing the demand for electricity to reach "an all-time peak" according to officials.
The aforementioned companies don't have a choice in the matter as they have been warned by MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator) that if the supply of power can't meet the demand then we may see rolling blackouts become necessary again.
MISO was behind the rolling blackouts that some parts of Acadiana experienced on Tuesday night, and conserving electricity now may help to avoid them in the future. Here are a few tips from LUS:
- Set your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower
- Unplugging or turning off non-essential appliances or electronics
- Avoid using large appliances
- When not at home, lower the thermostat as much as possible. Be mindful of pets.
All affected power companies are thankful for the patience of their respective customers.
