When I think about fans of the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League the thoughts are not warm and fuzzy. In fact, my thoughts about Eagles fans usually run the gambit from ne'er do wells to thugs to just outright criminals. This is the fan base that booed Santa Claus and was proudly known for throwing items like batteries at players and game day officials.

So the news that the Philadelphia Eagles logo is an outlier when compared to all of the other NFL team logos does not really come as a shock. Just to be clear. You have seen the logo the Eagles use, right?

As logos go, it's not the worst that's for sure. It certainly looks like an eagle. It has a beak and a menacing expression on its face too. But, there are a couple of other things about this logo that doesn't seem obvious at first but once you see it you won't be able to not see it ever again.

In the NFL there are 13 teams that have animals or characters that are their logos. There are the Patriots, the Bills, the Lions, the Seahawks, the Dolphins, the Ravens, the Texans, the Jaguars, the Falcons, the Panthers, the Cardinals, the Broncos, the Vikings and the Eagles.  All of those logos have one thing in common with the exception of the Eagles logo.

Here's the rule and the exception. All of those logos feature an animal or a character face to the right. The lone exception is the Philadelphia logo which has the Eagle facing to the left. And this was done on purpose so designers of the Eagles logo could incorporate an optical illusion into its design.

Have you spotted it?

Look at the far right edge of the logo. Do you see how those three feathers part in a very specific way? The way they are divided it looks as if they are forming a letter and they are. They form the letter "E" for Eagles. It's the only NFL logo that allows for such trickeration but then again, the Eagles have been known for a little trickery during their time on the field.

Up next for most NFL fans will be the upcoming NFL Draft. The "selection show" as it's sometimes called will begin on April 28th and will run through April 30th. The NFL will hold the all-important first round of the draft in prime time and then pick the players that actually make the team in the subsequent rounds on Friday afternoon and evening as well as Saturday.
