28-year-old Jon Michael Mauldwin of Port Barre has been sentenced to over 20 years in prison for federal carjacking and a related firearms charge stemming from the kidnapping of a Port Barre man in the early hours of August 20, 2017.

Nearly two and a half years ago, Mauldwin crashed his vehicle twice before forcing a homeowner at gunpoint to drive him to a store. While in the vehicle with the victim, Mauldwin shot the gun in front of the victim's face causing the driver's side window to shatter and causing hearing loss in the victim's left ear.

Once at the store, the victim got away before Mauldwin continued his crime spree in Point Coupee Parish where he was eventually arrested.
