Retired Abbeville Police Lieutenant Dies Of Cancer
Funeral arrangements are pending for retired Abbeville police lieutenant David Hardy.
Hardy, who served 30 years with the Abbeville Police Department, died Thursday after a long battle with cancer. The department announced Hardy's death on its Facebook page.
Hardy came from a police family. His brothers Mike and Tony both served as Abbeville's police chief--Mike from 1990 to 2006; Tony, from 2010 to 2018. Another of his brothers, John, was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1992 while conducting a traffic stop.
In addition to his regular police duties, Hardy also served as the Abbeville Police Department's public information officer.
