We are in the yuck season as far as weather forecasts go. What is "yuck season"? Just step outside and see if you don't say yuck. The weather isn't really cold, it's not really hot, it certainly is damp, and I do believe my nose is already starting to detect a hint of pollen in the air.

Conditions such as what we've described above are "normal" for Louisiana during February. During the shortest month, we start our transition from what we call winter to what we call pre-summer or spring. If you've lived here long enough you know spring only lasts a couple of weeks and not necessarily on consecutive days.

We say all that to provide some background for what's coming through the area on Wednesday. That something will be a strong cold front that is expected to really kick off the shower and thunderstorm activity across Louisiana and the Gulf South.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the state, including Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans in the slight risk category for severe storms and tornadoes on Wednesday. As of now the timing on the strongest of the storms places them in the heart of Acadiana Wednesday afternoon into the evening hours.

By Thursday morning the heaviest of the rainfall is expected to move well to the east of Acadiana. Behind the front will be much cooler conditions and a lot less of the "yuck" feeling we described earlier. But don't get too comfortable with the cooler temperatures either. We'll be back in the middle 70s by Sunday.

Such is yuck season in Acadiana.
