Strong Storms With Hail Pushing Through Acadiana
If you're awake in South Louisiana you've probably figured out the heaviest of the anticipated heavy weather is currently moving through Acadiana. There have been reports of high gusty winds, small hail, and heavy downpours over the past several hours as this storm system has pushed into the area.
The radar scan as of 1:30 AM showed the bulk of the strong storms were moving through the heart of the region. If the timing and speed on this system remain the same the heaviest of the rainfall and storms should be clear of the area by the time the morning commute begins.
Travelers in the early morning hours should expect "ponding" of water in low-lying areas of even major roadways. There have been flash flood watches and warnings issued for parts of the region as well.
A tornado watch remains in effect for much of Acadiana until 3 AM. Based on the anticipated progress of the storm system it is doubtful that this watch will be extended and should expire on schedule.
The forecast for the remainder of Thursday is calling for rain and showers to come to an end later this morning. There could be some sunshine by later this afternoon. The outlook for Friday and Saturday are very nice, however, storms are expected to return to the forecast on Sunday.
