Thermos Products Recalled Over Serious Injury Risks
(KMDL-FM) The insulated container or drink cup has certainly had a resurgence over the past few years. Unfortunately, one of the major players in keeping hot things hot and cold things cold, the Thermos Brand, is the subject of a major recall due to a confirmed risk of injury to consumers.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission noted in a recall advisory concerning the products that the company has already logged 27 injury reports. Three of those injury reports alleged permanent vision loss.

Millions of Thermos Brand Containers Recalled - Sold in Louisiana and the Gulf South
Just to give you an idea of the size and scope of the recall advisory from the CPSC, the action covers several million products. The products were sold nationwide via major retailers such as Walmart and Target. The main concern with the product, in addition to the aforementioned eye injuries are the potential for cuts as well.
The Thermos Brand makes hundreds of different products, and not all of them are included in this recall advisory. The particular products that are included are the Thermos Stainless King 3000, of which approximately 5.8 million units are included in the recall. There are also about 2.3 million 3020 Food Jars and Sportsman 3010 Food & Beverage Bottles included in the recall advisory.
Recalled Containers Could Explode, Causing Injuries
The concern with the product's safety arises when food has been stored in the containers for an extended period of time. The resulting "science experiment" can result in the container's stopper being forcefully ejected when the container is opened.

The recalled containers were sold from March 2008 through July 2024. As we mentioned, the products were sold nationwide at major retailers and at online sites such as Amazon.com and Thermos.com.
