Tropical Storm Formation Likely
An area of disturbed weather in the eastern Atlantic Ocean continues to draw the attention of forecasters with the National Hurricane Center. This tropical wave has been under the watchful eyes of tropical forecasters since late last week.
Over the past several days the area of showers and thunderstorms associated with this tropical wave have moved into atmospheric conditions that will make strengthening more likely. Forecasters with the Hurricane Center are giving this system a 70% probability of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. That probability is up to 80% over the next five days.
Should this tropical wave reach tropical storm strength it would be given the name Don. That would make it the fourth named storm of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The projected path of this system continues to be generally toward the west. The system is several days away from impacting any land mass should it continue to develop.
