SCOTT, La. (AP) — The driver of a tractor-trailer headed eastbound on I-10 near Scott is being lauded as a hero after rescuing two women whose SUV ran off a bridge into water.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1M08qz7 ) the man, who was not identified and drove off after seeing the women safely in the hands of emergency crews, told the Scott Volunteer Fire Department he witnessed the incident just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

The trucker told firefighters the women were ejected from their vehicle and were floating face-down in the water. He jumped in to pull them both to safety.

Chief Chad P. Sonnier, in a news release, said when firefighters responded to the single-vehicle crash they saw the trucker in chest-deep water with the two semi-conscious women at the edge of the water.
