Walmart Brings Major Upgrades To Louisiana Stores This Year

(KMDL-FM) In light of recent economic news, this would have to be considered a twist. Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, has announced plans to upgrade and remodel 650 stores across its footprint, including 20 stores in Louisiana.

According to a company release, these projects, the remodels and installation of new stores, are being done to help strengthen local economies, create jobs, and make the shopping experience for customers faster and more convenient.

How Many Walmart Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets Are in Louisiana?

The scheduled remodels and upgrades will include Walmart Supercenter locations and Neighborhood Market locations. There are currently 137 Walmart Supercenter locations in Louisiana. Walmart also operates 33 neighborhood markets in the state. And just because you're probably wondering, there are 14 Sam's Clubs in Louisiana.

The recently released plans by Walmart include upgrades to one dozen of the Supercenter locations in the state. There will be eight Neighborhood Markets in Louisiana that will undergo upgrades and remodels over the next year.

What Will Be Different at Walmart Following Remodeling?

Among the upgrades at the Neighborhood Market locations, customers can expect to see more options in the hot food and deli sections. The upgrades also include improved lighting, pharmacy delivery options, and a faster and better way to facilitate online grocery orders, too.

The upgrades for the Supercenters include better lighting, refreshed interiors, improved parking, and landscaping. Inside the store, customers will notice wider aisles and an improved layout. Other changes include adding more healthy food options and expediting pharmacy orders and deliveries.

Among the stores tapped for a refresh and remodel are the Broussard Supercenter on St. Nazaire Road, the Lake Charles Supercenter on Martin Luther King Highway, as well as Supercenter locations in Houma, Thibodaux, and Baton Rouge.

Will Walmart Close Stores During The Remodeling Process?

There is the possibility that some locations might experience temporary closures or have portions of the store closed during remodeling, but those closures will be announced well ahead of time.

As of this report, we do not have the specific timetable for when refresh and remodel work will begin. But Walmart assures us that you will be informed well in advance so that your shopping experience will not be interrupted. And again, there may be no specific need to temporarily limit access to shoppers.

Nationwide, Walmart has also announced plans to open 20 new stores this year. None of those new locations is planned for Louisiana.
