I'm sure most of us know the expression "if you don't like the weather in Acadiana, give it fifteen minutes, and it will change." That's what happened with this weekend's "Acadiana Duck Derby" weather. The derby was still held, but in a warehouse instead of at Moncus Park.

Several bands of thunderstorms moved into the area overnight, and the weather continued to be rainy. The folks at Second Harvest Food Bank decided to move their fundraiser indoors.

If you have listened to our radio stations for the last few weeks you have heard all of us vying for you guys to buy a duck. Each of us had a competition with our coworkers on each station to see which morning show could sell the most ducks to help fight hunger.

We also had an internal competition to see which radio station would end up selling the most ducks. We had some fun talking about why buying a duck from each of us was better. I even went out to the intersection of Johnston and Ambassador Caffery this week to wear a giant duck costume while dancing to sell ducks. We all did this to show our love for Acadiana, and to show that we understand times are tough.

The numbers are staggering when it comes to dealing with who is hungry in Acadiana. The latest data shows that one out of every seven people in Acadiana is hungry. The most vulnerable to food insecurity are children and the elderly.

You can donate at any time to Second Harvest Food Bank by clicking here. You should know that 96 cents of every dollar are used on food and getting that food to everyone in Acadiana in need.

A winner of $5,000 was crowned today, and the lucky winners are Kathryn and Joseph. The other nine ducks that crossed the finish line after the first duck led to other folks winning prizes, but the real winner of the duck derby is the people in Acadiana who are suffering from food insecurity.
