Sometimes we look across the street or out the back window at our neighbors and wonder, just what are they doing? Most neighbors I've had have always been pretty cool people. I generally keep to myself and I found most of my neighbors do the same thing. However, one woman in Vermont is so upset at the idea of looking out and seeing another house, she decided to put up a giant screen to block the view.

The woman's name is Ruth Dwyer. You might think that Ruth is a bit of crackpot. While I can neither confirm nor deny that assumption, I do know she once ran for Governor of Vermont.

Here is Ruth's beef as explained by WPTZ TV in Burlington Vermont. It seems that Ruth has lived on her farm a long time. For the longest time there were no neighbors. Just Ruth and her animals. A few months ago somebody dared to build a modest home that was visible from Ruth's home. According to Ruth it has really upset her animals.

Based on the WPTZ report submitted by Liz Strzepa, the neighbors aren't doing anything but living in their home like normal people would. It's just the activity of having people near that seems to upset the neighbors. This has prompted Ruth to plant a row a cedar trees to block the view of the other home. Until those trees grow large enough she has erected a 60 foot by 24 foot screen.

The town fathers of Thetford VT have taken exception and say the screen must come down. Everyday that it stands erected another $200 fine is levied at Dwyer. So far the amount is in excess of $15,000.00 dollars.

What does the new neighbor think of the screen? He says it's pretty unwelcoming and it doesn't make him feel at home.  Ruth says despite the council rulings, despite the neighbors feelings, despite the fines, the screen will stay in place until the cedar trees grow tall enough.
