(KMDL-FM) The landscape of mall shopping across the nation has certainly changed over the last decade. Gone are the "gonna go hang out at the mall" days many of us experienced as kids. Those "hangouts" have shifted from listening to the latest tunes at the record shop to discussing life while staring at your phone over coffee at one of the many coffee houses that have sprung up over the past ten years.

This shift in how American shoppers use and view shopping malls has caused many an iconic retailer to rethink their business strategy. Some retailers have figured it out, while others have simply thrown in the towel.

Other retailers have simply redefined their business model and are choosing to focus on the aspects of their business that earn a profit and discontinue those product lines and services that impact the retailer's bottom line in a negative way.

Bath & Body Works Announces Strategic Closures

This change in retail strategy has resulted in some serious fiscal belt-tightening. One iconic mall retailer that boasts some 1,900 locations across the nation and the world is now rethinking its corporate strategy as company leaders attempt to keep it moving forward in a profitable manner.

The principles behind Bath and Body Works had recently announced plans to or the actual closing of some 92 different locations of that brand across its national and international footprint. According to reports, 62 of those stores were based in the United States.

Bath & Body Works Is Not Going Out of Business

Almost all of the brand's store closures were mall-based locations. The good news for fans of Bath and Body Works is that the brand is actually opening more stores, primarily in off-mall locations. So, it's not like the brand is going away; you just won't be as likely to find a location in a mall as you once used to.

Louisiana customers can shop for Bath and Body Works items at 25 different locations across the state. It is unclear at this time if any of the Louisiana locations will be affected by the ongoing strategy outlined in the recent earnings call.
