As Classic Country Saturday Night approaches, let us jump in the country music history time machine once again. We will find that today was quite memorable for two big names in country music. Let's see why!

May 8th:

1968: Merle Haggard held the #1 spot on the country charts with 'The Legend of Bonnie and Clyde.' He also recorded his hit 'Mama Tried' on the Capitol Recording Studio in Hollywood with help from Glen Campbell.

1974: Merle once again held the #1 country single with 'Things Aren't Funny Anymore'. This would be his 17th number one hit on the country charts.

1989: Country music suffered a huge loss when Keith Whitley was found dead in his Nashville home from alcohol poisoning. He is best know for his hits like 'Don't Close Your Eyes' and 'When You Say Nothing At All.'

As we honor Merle Haggard's achievements over the years, let us also honor the legend of Keith Whitley for his talent and love for country music. Something specific you would like to hear? Let us know by giving us a call on the leash line, (337) 261-9797.
