Back in April, we told you that the parent company of Fred's Super Dollar Stores had announced that nearly 160 stores would be closing. Among the stores on that list was the Fred's Super Dollar location on Congress Street in Lafayette and stores in Carencro, Franklin, St. Martinville, and Westlake. The company said those locations would be closing their doors by the end of May.

Yesterday the company announced plans to close 104 more locations across the Gulf South in an effort to streamline the company and make it more profitable. None of the stores on the new list are in the immediate area but stores in Moss Bluff, Marksville, Tioga, and others would be shuttering their operations by the end of June.

In a press release from the company, CEO Joseph Anto said,

These additional store closures are a difficult, but necessary step in the continued restructuring of Fred’s.

The press release went on to say that liquidation of inventory at the affected stores was scheduled to begin today.
