Lafayette isn't the only South Louisiana city that will be able to boast a new airport terminal in the near future. In the city of Abbeville construction on a new terminal at Chris Crusta Memorial Airport is nearing completion.

The one million dollar project began in August of last year. Work has been progressing steadily over the past several months and if all goes according to plan the new terminal should be ready by August of this year.

Chris Crusta Airport hosts an average of 150 takeoffs and landings each day. Most of those are from the general aviation community or oilfield service helicopters. Abbeville civic leaders said the construction of a new terminal was paramount in keeping the Abbeville facility on par with other airports competing for the same air traffic.

Last week Abbeville's city council approved an investment of $300,000 to renovate an older hanger at the airport. Those renovations include insulating the walls, replacing the roof, and sprucing up several areas of the hangar on the inside of the building.

Renovations to the hangar and the construction of the new terminal should be completed at about the same time. As we mentioned the terminal should be done by sometime in August and the upgrade to the hangar should be completed within a couple of months as well.
