Louisiana residents will enjoy a nice day today as far as the weather goes but that will likely change for some areas of the state by as early as tonight. By tomorrow, that approaching weather system will put more than 2/3rds of the state at risk for severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center, as you can see in the graphic above, is suggesting the worst of the storms will stay north of the US 190 corridor. In fact, the biggest threat for damaging winds and tornadoes will likely be along and north of the I-20 corridor. But as you can see, there is a large part of the state that will be at least at a slight risk of severe weather.

Along I-10 the residents of Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Baton Rouge will need to keep a close eye on the sky too but the potential for the stronger storms is expected to remain well north of those communities.

The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles has rain chances for the I-10 corridor listed at 80% for Saturday. The thinking is that Saturday morning will bring showers to the area but by Saturday afternoon those showers will likely turn into thunderstorms. The threat of storms will remain in the area through at least midnight on Saturday and may even extend into the early morning hours of Sunday.

Sunday morning around the region will still include a threat of showers but they will be ending and temperatures will be slightly cooler. You'll also notice a nice breeze out of the north on Sunday which might make it seem even cooler for your early morning activities.
