It seems as if South Louisiana's weather has been rather unpredictably predictable as of late. Lately, our forecasts have included several nice days over the weekend followed by a round of storms during the middle of the week. Last week was no exception. Except last week's storms did leave a trail of damage behind.

You might recall some of the damage in Vernon Parish captured most of the headlines but there was damage in Wednesday's storms in other places too. One of those places was the Town of Welsh. Officials there say the midweek storms virtually destroyed the town's animal shelter.

Six dogs were being housed at the facility at the time of the storm. All but one of those animals was found shortly after the storm had passed. Unfortunately, the sixth animal is still unaccounted for.

Several local businesses have stepped up to the plate and donated temporary kennels and other businesses have been contacted about donating a canopy and other structural supplies. Town officials believe the cost of replacing the shelter will run into the thousands of dollars.

However, those close to the project are hopeful that donations from the community will have the shelter up and running this week as decisions on how to move forward with more permanent solutions are made.
